Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO participated in a Women, Peace and Security meeting organized by WETEC Kenya in Busia County, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and promote women’s meaningful participation in peace and security efforts.
The meeting was officially opened by the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) and brought together representatives from government departments, civil society organizations, community-based organizations and other partners for knowledge sharing, learning, and discussions on the role of women in building peaceful and secure communities.
The discussions highlighted the importance of the Women, Peace and Security agenda and the key pillars that continue to guide women’s involvement in peace-building processes:
Participation – Promoting women’s inclusion and ensuring that women have meaningful representation in decision-making spaces that affect their lives and communities.
Protection – Strengthening systems and creating safe environments where women and girls can live, participate and thrive without fear of violence or discrimination.
Prevention – Addressing root causes of conflict, violence and insecurity through community engagement, awareness creation and inclusive approaches to peace-building.
During the open forum, Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO shared experiences from its work in strengthening women’s leadership and empowerment. The organization emphasized that women are not only affected by peace and security challenges but are also powerful agents of change who contribute to creating peaceful, inclusive and resilient communities.
Baridi Kwa Baridi believes that investing in women’s leadership, knowledge and participation is essential in achieving sustainable peace and community development.
