Making Our Voices Count in Busia’s Budget Process !
On 21st February 2025, Baridi Kwa Baridi Women Community-Based Organization (CBO), as part of the Busia Community of Practice (COP) chapter, participated in a workshop organized by Dhamira Moja CBO with support from the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF) and the Collaborative Center for Gender and Development (CCGD). The workshop focused on building our capacity to engage meaningfully in county planning and budget-making processes.
We reviewed the Draft County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) 2025/2026 and focused on priorities in Youth, Sports, Culture, Gender and Creative Arts, Health and Sanitation, Education and Industrial Development, and Disaster Management under the Governorship
Among our key recommendations to the county included to,
1 Revive dormant revenue streams to increase county income.
2 Make public participation reports easily available to citizens to ensure transparency and accountability.
On 24th February 2025, we joined the public participation session in Bukhayo West, where we submitted our recommendations and advocated for the community’s development priorities in form of a memorandum in regards to the proposed Draft County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) 2025/2026
By working together, we’re promoting budget transparency, social accountability, and inclusive development for all!
