On Monday, June 16, 2025, Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO joined the Busia County community in commemorating the Day of the African Child under the theme “Planning and budgeting for children’s rights: progress since 2010,at Busende Primary School in Busia sub county, Busia County. This year theme, “Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights: progress since 2010” calls upon all duty bearers(parents, educators, community leaders, government, civil society organizations and development partners) to collaboratively invest in education and create safe, inclusive spaces for learning. It is only through intentional planning and adequate resource allocation that we can secure the future of our children.

Key Highlights of the event;

The event brought together stakeholders, parents, children, and local leaders to reflect on the challenges African children face like child exploitation and defilement.

Official Launch: Busia County Children Policy

The day was full of joy, hope and big steps forward for children in Busia County as the County officially rolled out its Children Policy. The policy provides a framework to safeguard children’s rights, ensure educational equity, eliminate child labor and combat malnutrition. We were reminded that the children policy can only succeed when combined with collective action and shared commitment.

The CECM for County Treasury and Economic Planning, Douglas Okiring’ officiated the launch on behalf of the Governor. He highlighted that the policy puts emphasis on child oriented mitigations such that children’s basic rights are protected even during disasters.

The launch was also attended by CECM for Youths, Sports, Tourism, Culture, Social Protection, Gender Affairs and Creative Arts, Paul Olunga, County Chief officers; Pascilisa Barasa, Esau Ochakala, County Assembly members, County Commissioner Mwachaunga Chaunga, Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti, Development partners,civil society organizations and children from across Busia county.

The event was also filled with inspiring performances by children; poems, skits, dances and songs reminding us of their resilience, potential and dreams.

At Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO, we believe children deserve more than promises, they need resources and action to ensure their education, safety and well-being is prioritized. This policy is a step towards ensuring resources are allocated where they matter most: to protect and empower every child.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Donors

Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO greatly appreciates our incredible donors, FREEDOM FUND for their generosity.

Because of you, we were able to participate in this significant day, bringing the stories and challenges faced by out of school children to the forefront and take active steps in addressing them.

Many of these children are out of school due to financial hardships, early pregnancies, or lack of support. Most of them have been engaged as child domestic workers to fill a gap left by either parents or irresponsible guardians/caregivers or for one reason or the other.But thanks to your support, they were part of the Day of the African Child celebrations, they were seen, heard and inspired to believe in a brighter tomorrow.

Your contributions made it possible for us to show up for these children.

Together, we are rewriting their stories and proving that no child is invisible or should be left behind.

From all of us at Baridi Kwa Baridi and especially the children whose lives you’ve touched, we say thank you.
