The\u00a0Busia County Department of Education and Vocational Training<\/strong>, in partnership with\u00a0World Vision<\/strong>, convened a 2 day multi-stakeholder dialogue aimed at strengthening and harmonizing school feeding programmes across Busia County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum brought together representatives from the County Government, World Vision, the State Department, civil society organisations, faith leaders, school communities and other stakeholders to deliberate on pathways towards a coordinated, sustainable and locally-owned school meals system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the forum, the County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training, Beatrice Nakholi<\/strong>, reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to prioritising child health, nutrition and learning through structured and sustainable school feeding frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

World Vision Manager for Busia, Trans Nzoia and Kakamega, Joseph Egesa<\/strong>, highlighted the importance of developing homegrown solutions that connect local agricultural producers to school feeding programmes, creating a model that can simultaneously support children’s nutrition and strengthen local livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session also featured technical presentations, including a presentation on the Tuimarishe Lishe Bora Shuleni<\/strong> project facilitated by Richard Miruka<\/strong>, as well as contributions from Dennis Nabiswa<\/strong> representing the State Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants were taken through policy and budget processes, policy advocacy approaches, public finance and budget analysis and the use of evidence to advocate for stronger investment in school meals programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baridi Kwa Baridi Director elected to lead county school meals coordination<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A significant outcome of the dialogue was the election of Maureene Ayodi, Director of Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO, as Chairperson of the Busia County School Meals Programme<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her new role, the Director will provide leadership in stakeholder coordination and advocacy aimed at strengthening the school meals agenda across the county. The position will involve working with county government departments, World Vision, civil society organisations, faith leaders, schools, communities and other partners to advance a coordinated approach to school feeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The appointment reflects the importance of multi-stakeholder leadership and community participation<\/strong> in building sustainable systems that respond to children’s nutritional and educational needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Towards a coordinated and sustainable system<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The initiative seeks to transition Busia County from fragmented and scattered school feeding interventions towards a single, coordinated and sustainable school meals system<\/strong>, aligned with Kenya’s 2024\u20132030 national school meals framework<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The County Department of Education and Vocational Training will provide strategic leadership, planning and budget integration, while partners including World Vision, CSOs, faith leaders and school communities will contribute to implementation, advocacy, community mobilisation and ground-level outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO, participation in the initiative reinforces its commitment to advancing the wellbeing and rights of women and children in Busia County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A stronger school meals system is not only about providing food. It is an investment in child health, school attendance, learning outcomes, household resilience and the future of Busia’s children<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, stakeholders are working towards a Busia where every child can access nutritious meals and learn in an environment that supports their growth, dignity and potential.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
