Our Director, Ms. Maureene Ayodi presented an abstract titled: <strong>\u201cLocalizing Child Protection: Community-Driven Approaches to Building Climate Resilience in Busia County, Kenya.\u2019<\/strong> We also joined hands under the NIA Consortium to share on how climate shocks are increasing child domestic labor and how community-driven systems can protect children before, during and after climate crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across Busia and other climate-affected counties, floods, droughts and economic shocks are pushing many families to negative coping mechanisms including sending children, especially girls, into domestic labour. Without climate-sensitive child protection systems, more children will drop out of school,Migrate in search of work and Increased exposure to abuse and exploitation becomes invisible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Baridi Kwa Baridi is doing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through Freedom Fund support and NIA Consortium collaboration, we are Leveraging on Community led solutions:<br>\u2705 Establishing safe spaces and psychosocial support for affected children<br>\u2705 Distributing reusable pads and keeping girls in school during crises<br>\u2705 Training young domestic workers in vocational skills for safe livelihoods<br>\u2705 Supporting household resilience through micro-enterprises and climate-smart agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2705Engaging chiefs, boda boda riders, churches and parents to challenge child labour<br>\u2705 Working with county agencies during floods to include child protection in emergency response<br>\u2705 Influencing policy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Looking Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO will continue to work with government, NIA Consortium partners, Freedom Fund and community structures to support:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scale early warning and preparedness approaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthen climate-resilient education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Households with sustainable livelihoods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Push for full enforcement of child domestic work protections in policy and law<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advocate for child-centered climate actions in county and national planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Appreciation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We thank <strong>Freedom Fund<\/strong>, NIA Consortium partners, government departments, survivors and community leaders for championing this work.<br>Our participation in ICCP 2025 has strengthened our voice, sharpened our strategies, and renewed our commitment to ensuring that <strong>no child is left invisible<\/strong>, even in the face of climate change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conference Update | ICCP \u2013 Kenya, 2025 Baridi Kwa Baridi Women CBO participated in the 3rd International Conference on Child Protection in Africa (ICCP), which took place In Nairobi from 5th-7th November 2025.
